ORDCD’s Response to Gov. Kotek’s moratorium press release

Governor Kotek published a press release in support of local moratoriums, but with some mistaken information. We are glad to see the governor’s attention to data center proliferation in Oregon, but urge more meaningful action.

About ORDCD

Who We Are

Oregon Data Center Defiance is a statewide coalition of advocates, experts, academics, activists, and organizations working to prevent the negative impacts of data center expansion in Oregon to reduce the environmental, social, and economic damages to our communities.

What We’re Doing

We are currently working to pass the Responsible Data Center Development Act in to legislation, to impose a temporary, 3-year moratorium on new large data center construction in Oregon. The new legislation will also set immediate standards, and creates a new task force to develop a comprehensive, long-term framework. The moratorium will give the task force the time needed to complete their work, and for the legislature to pass their recommendations in to state law.
